Great weather this weekend heading into the bank holiday, somewhat rare as it normally rains.

A great win for Martin Lythgoe with 38 points, closely followed by Richard on 37 points.

Thanks for the contributions from a number of guest writers this week

Sighted, the rare occasion of Tony hitting a wood, it went straight and true, must have been lucky. A very dapper hat.

From Richard

The weather was lovely which lead to a fight to get a shady seat on the patio. Golf was good in parts with Jock keeping up his recent form. Roger not so much. But Roger did excel with his impressive command of Anglo Saxon. If Jock and I were younger, less worldly wise, men we might well have blushed.

The Unfortunate Case of Andy’s Round

Subject: A catalogue of avoidable misfortune, suspicious circumstances, and general golfing injustice during Andy’s round.

Andy’s latest golfing outing provided compelling evidence that there is, in fact, no shortage of things that can go wrong on a golf course.

Proceedings began to unravel at the 6th green, where a white flag appeared to be positioned in entirely the wrong place for Andy’s putt. Whether this was poor course setup, optical illusion, or deliberate interference remains unconfirmed, though confidence in the putting line suffered greatly.

Trouble continued at the 7th tee, where the teeing area was considered dangerously close to a suspicious tub of unpleasantness on the left-hand side. Environmental conditions were widely deemed less than ideal for focus, rhythm, or basic enjoyment.

At the 8th hole, further confusion arose when Andy’s drive found a bunker — a highly unusual event according to Andy, who maintained that his ball “doesn’t normally go in a bunker??” Independent witnesses were unable to verify this claim.

The round took an even stranger turn at the 16th, when the notorious “Disappearing Ball Trick” made an unwelcome appearance. Despite all indications of a perfectly respectable shot, the ball vanished without explanation, never to be seen again. Local golfing folklore suggests this phenomenon occurs exclusively to players already having a difficult day.

Key Findings

Obstacles to success were plentiful.
Course conditions appeared selectively unhelpful.
Luck was nowhere to be found.
Andy endured a level of adversity not fully reflected by the scorecard.
Additional Observations: Rog

Separate to Andy’s misfortunes, Rog encountered difficulties of his own, most notably at the 12th hole, where he reportedly ran out of swear words — a rare and serious golfing condition. Having exhausted his normal vocabulary of frustration, Rog faced the remaining holes with severely reduced verbal ammunition.

Recommendation

Golfers are advised to never find themselves short of swear words. Proper preparation should include a broad and sustainable range of golfing expletives to ensure adequate emotional support over all 18 holes.

Conclusion:

Andy displayed admirable persistence in the face of adversity, mystery, questionable flag placement, bunker-related controversy, and disappearing golf balls. Rog, meanwhile, provided a cautionary tale on the importance of maintaining sufficient swearing reserves for the back nine.
